Bourke Street Bakery, Surry Hills

I cannot believe it’s taken me until now to give this place a go. Once again, after too many recommendations I really decided that I’d have to try this place out. And I am so glad I did! This place is unbelievable for a little bakery – you wouldn’t even know it was there if it weren’t for the massive queue that made passers-by yell out of car windows “Is the bread really that good?!”

Roast lamb, apple and blackcurrent chutney, roasted beetroot, rocket mix($7.50)

Bacon and egg pizza – toasted ($6.80)

Pork and fennel sausage roll ($4.50)

Ginger brulee tart ($4.80)

Passion-fruit meringue tart ($5.00)

The Food Zoo experience: Everything is just. so. good. You wouldn’t have thought that a bakery could make the most amazing pastry desserts yet also satisfy with simple yet fascinating sausage rolls and gourmet sandwiches. I loved how the decor is so European, makes you feel like you’re on a European holiday! But I also hate how there isn’t enough seating given the amount of people who line up! The coffee was mildly average but I would definitely recommend the pork and fennel sausage roll and the boy absolutely loved the ginger brulee tart. I’m no fan of ginger but the texture of the brulee tart makes it a must try!

Oh also I forgot to try the actual bread!! So fail.. But it also means I NEED to go back again… Soon!
