So smack bang in the middle of Oxford St (opposite the markets) is this amazing little cafe which opens through to an exquisite and cosy little courtyard. I loved almost everything about this place (the waitstaff were a little on the “slow” side) – the pink sign, the glass panel doors with rough brick interiors to complete that European/Melbourne alleyway cafe vibe. More importantly, a comprehensive breakfast, brunch and lunch menu and of course, good coffee!
Melt – smoked ham, avocado, tomato relish & gruyere on sourdough ($12.00) with chorizo sides ($4.50) and haloumi sides ($4.00)
This combination was perfect for a late brunch on a chilly but sunny Sunday morning. The gruyere – swiss cheese – wasn’t too rich, the chorizo wasn’t too salty and there was plenty of avocado. Mmm yum! (Unfortunately the haloumi made me feel like I was chewing on a handful of rubber bands… May give that a pass next time!)
Eggs Benedict – Poached free range eggs, house-made Hollandaise sauce, spinach on English Muffin with Salmon($16.00) with chorizo sides ($4.50)
I didn’t have a taste but I could see the poached eggs were perfect. This dish was soon covered with egg yolk and formed what I would describe as a delicious mess!
